Course Description
Uniforms, pompoms and breathtaking stunts? What many only know from movies is reality at the University of St. Gallen! We are the first and only university cheerleading team in Switzerland.

Our team is specifically designed for beginners. You don’t need any experience at all – no gymnastics, no dance, no flexibility. Almost all our team members started from zero. We teach you everything step by step in a supportive, empowering group of girls.

Cheerleading is more than just bows and pompoms (although we love those too). It’s a full-body workout disguised as fun, a way to build confidence, and a chance to represent HSG with pride at games and shows. You’ll improve your fitness, learn new skills, and become part of an amazing group of female students while having a fun time.

Curious? Come to one or more of our Trial Practices and/or join the Beginner Camp to see if cheer is for you. No pressure, no commitment, just show up and try it out!

After Trial Practices, if you want to join the team, please sign up for Team Placements on 25 September 2025. After Team Placements we won’t be accepting new students until fall 2026.

Trial Practices (two weeks in September): Open trainings for everyone interested in our team
Beginner Camp: learn the basics
Team Placements (September): Team Selection for the respective year
Team Trainings (from October on): Exclusively for team members

Details about each event:

Trial Practices
In the first 2 weeks of classes, we’ll host three Trial Practices for anyone interested in joining the team. No experience required! These sessions are open to all students and give you the chance to try cheerleading, meet the team, and get a first taste of what our practices feel like. We highly recommend joining at least one Trial Practice to prepare for Team Placements in September.
Participation in the Trial Practices does not commit you to joining the team.

Beginner Camp
Additionally, we offer a 2-hour Beginner Camp where we go deeper into the basics of cheerleading – from stunts and tumbling to pyramids, jumps, baskets, and chants. It’s the perfect way to get to know the sport and have a fun afternoon.
Sign up if you're interested and come by! Participation in the camp does not commit you to joining the team.

Team Placements
We’ll hold our official Team Placements on the second Thursday of the semester to select the new team for the season. You’ll go through a few basic cheer movements (beginner-friendly). No worries, if you’ve attended at least one of the Trial Practices or the camp, you’ll be well prepared. More info will be shared by your coaches during Trial Practices. The Team Placements are open to everyone – no cheer experience needed!

Regular Team Practices – from October on
After Team Placements, our team is fixed and will train according to the schedule.
Please note: After Team Placements, we won’t be accepting new members until the next fall.

Meet your coaches
Our team is coached by Niqqi & Leonie – both Swiss National Champions in cheerleading. Niqqi is also one of the head coaches for Team Switzerland at the 2027 World Championship, while Leonie is a certified personal trainer with a passion for strength and team spirit. You’ll be in good hands.
